Our Story
How it all started…
In the small Picardy village of Le Boisle, wickerwork using basket willow is an age-old tradition. Before 1940, there were around 140 basket-makers working in the village. In 1973, three brothers decided to combine their talents. Thus Candas Frères was born, specialising in the manufacture of displays for the food trade and wicker baskets. Candas’ expertise lies in a rationalised approach to design, methodical manufacturing and the careful selection of raw materials, complemented by perfect harmony with subcontractors. The Candas team is constantly innovating. In recent years, it has worked on the combination of wicker and metal to create aesthetic and robust display baskets and units: the “Rust and Gold” range, regularly expanded by the addition of new products, in order to increase the “presentation” potential in a sometimes limited space.
A passion for Design
In 2017, Candas, led by its new manager Xavier Quointeau, who is passionate about aesthetics, modernity and functionality, decided to incorporate a production unit for metalwork – previously subcontracted – with the idea of creating new display units and, above all, sleek furniture lines.
All the company’s employees threw their talents into the project. And so the very first range was created. It was unveiled at the Art&Déco fair in Paris La Villette in 2019 and immediately caused a buzz.
